Alef-Bet
I created this based on a Jewish idea that G-d created the Universe with words..."G-d spoke let there be light" and I remembered a story in the Midrash (famous Jewish scholarly text) about how the letters of the aleph-bet each asked to be the first letter when G-d created the Torah. Check out the fable by clicking on this link and scrolling down the webpage: http://sixthirteen.org/blog/2002/08/story_of_the_aleph_bet.php I was painting this idea of the Universe being made of Hebrew letters and flowing together in a Milky Way of light and stars. It occurred to me that random Hebrew letters wouldn't be as interesting. I don't speak Hebrew at all so I went to my Art Scroll prayer books up and found the appropriate words on the very first page opened. If you happen to know Hebrew there is a message within the painting that is not too hidden. Watercolor 11 x 15.5 2007
